The ChemPoint User Interface

Tasks that you perform in ChemPoint are organized into the following views:

Views are selected from the View menu, or from the Views shortcut bar in the left pane of the ChemPoint main window.

There are two general methods for getting your data into ChemPoint.

Import data from an existing database, as described below.
Enter data manually.

To enter data manually, select the appropriate view as described above. In most views, you can double click on any data item to edit data for that item. Right-mouse click in any view to access a context sensitive menu for that view. Most context-sensitive menus include commands to add new data.

When starting a new facility, you should enter data in the following order:

From Data | Edit Facility Data, enter facility specific information such as name, address, and locations.
Use the Dates and Locations view to enter data for all of the sampling points such as monitoring wells and soil sampling locations.
Enter data for each sampling date at the time you prepare the sample containers for the sampling event.
Use the Sampling Event view to enter the data for each sampling container at the time you prepare the container for the sampling event. You may ignore the sampling containers if you choose. ChemPoint will create containers automatically as they are required.
After receiving the analysis for each container, enter the final parameter concentrations in the Post Analysis view.

ChemPoint provides powerful data import capabilities for competing products, and for custom formatted databases in dBase, MS Access, MS FoxPro, or tab-delimited text files. You can create a new facility database by importing data from an existing database in the following formats:

Use the Universal Importer if you want to import new data to an existing ChemPoint 4.0 database. The Universal Importer will allow you to import data from dBase, MS Access, MS FoxPro or tab-delimited text database files. You can also use the Universal Importer to import data from these database formats into an all new ChemPoint 4.0 database.

You can export data from a ChemPoint database to the following formats:

For greater flexibility when exporting to text files, you can export any of the reports to a tab-delimited text file.

ChemPoint includes eleven basic styles of printable reports. Each report can be customized with respect to fonts, colors, borders, and in many cases, data fields displayed in the report. You can also limit reports to specific dates, locations, and parameters. There are many other options as well. Customized reports can be saved as template files and used later. There are also options for how non-detects are represented.

You can also export reports to a tab-delimited text file. This is one of the most powerful method of exporting data from ChemPoint.

ChemPoint can create and print professional quality well construction diagrams. Diagrams are drawn using one of many available style templates. Templates control fonts, colors, and diagram styles. You can use one of the templates included with ChemPoint, or create your own. Diagrams are also drawn to specifications for each well. There are four diagram styles available for wells. These are piezometer, monitoring well, open hole pumping well, and screened pumping well. Pumping wells are drawn with a lightly larger diameter than monitoring wells. Diagrams are also drawn with materials, pad, and flush mount as specified for each well.
