Introduction to Super Slug

What is Super Slug?

Super Slug is a program developed to help ground water scientists evaluate slug test data. Super Slug has been designed with ease of use, acceptability of data, and accuracy of results as primary objectives. Super Slug accepts input and produces output with extensive compatibility of units. Super Slug accepts data from electronic data logger text files, in most cases without modification of the data files. Super Slug uses the four most popular slug test data analysis methods to determine aquifer transmissivity and/or hydraulic conductivity. Customizable graphical presentations of the data and analysis are also provided.

How do I enter data?

Data is entered by the keyboard from selections on the Edit menu. Information such as title , site name and location are entered from Edit | Site Information. Aquifer dimensions and well radius dimensions are entered from Edit | Aquifer Parameters. Time and drawdown values are entered from Edit | Time and Drawdown. Before entering data, desired units are selected from Options | Units.

Super Slug also imports digital data logger files in most formats without editing, as well as files in Geraghty & Miller's AQTESOLV format. Select File | Import to import data logger files or AQTESOLV files.

It does not matter if the slug test is injection or withdrawal type. It also does not matter if the drawdown values are depth to water, height of column, or are relative to sea level as long as the datum is consistent throughout the test.

What type of slug test can I run?

Super Slug includes the following tests:

Graphical methods display data and allow the user to control how Super Slug calculates aquifer parameters. The Hvorslev and the Bouwer and Rice graphical methods draw a best fit line through data points. The slope of the line is used to calculate the aquifer parameters. The user can select the first and last point included in the best fit analysis. Calculation results are displayed on the graph, which can then be printed. The Cooper, Bredehoeft, Papadopulos test utilizs on-screen matching of data to a type curve.

Automatic tests calculate aquifer parameters without user interaction. Calculation results are displayed on the screen in a report format. Data excluded from analysis with the graphical methods, will also be excluded in the automatic methods.

How do I graph my data?

In addition to the graphical analysis methods, Super Slug can display data in five graph types.

Super Slug Graphs (Menu Items):

Graphs are displayed in choice of colors and fonts. The look of the graphs can be customized from the Options menu. Graphs can be printed, copied to the clipboard, or saved as a bitmap.
