How to Get Your Data into ChemStat
You do not enter data directly into ChemStat. ChemStat reads data from an ASCII text file in a special ChemStat format. To import the file, select File | New Project | ChemStat Text File. ChemStat can also import data directly from DUMPStat or Sanitas databases.
After you have imported your data, all ChemStat projects are saved in a ChemStat binary file. You open ChemStat projects from File | Open Project.
How to Create the Text File
How you create the text file depends on the format of your existing data. If you are using ChemPoint for your database, all other conversions should go through ChemPoint first.
ChemPoint 4.x Database or Later -- Open your database in ChemPoint. In ChemPoint, select File | Export | ChemStat. Select a file name and have ChemPoint write the file. In ChemStat, go to File | New Project | ChemStat Text File and select the file name you just created.
DUMPStat Data -- ChemStat imports DUMPStat data directly from the DUMPStat database file in Microsoft Access format. Select File | New Project | DUMPStat Database to import DUMPStat data.
Sanitas Data -- ChemStat imports Sanitas data directly from the Sanitas database file in tab-delimited text format. Select File | New Project | Sanitas Text File to import Sanitas data.
Microsoft Excel and All Other Databases -- If you are using any database not listed above, or you are storing your data in Microsoft Excel, then you must use the special conversion utilities available free at http://pointstar.com/Download/DatabaseEngines.aspx
