ChemStat imports data from tab-delimited ASCII text files. Additional information can be specified for the project such as the facility name and a description. The project can then be saved as binary files in a ChemStat specific format. ChemStat binary files have a "csd" extension.
Binary files provide a way of archiving the original data set used for analyses. The imported text file may change over time, or may just be temporary. However, once a binary file is created, there is no way to change the sample values.
Binary files also store all scripts, WorkBook entries and Summary List information.
