Estimating Alpha

An estimate of alpha is required for the determination of storativity. Enter the estimate in the Estimate window. Click the Apply button to apply the estimate. Alpha is estimated from the type curve best matching the field data. The estimate entered here is of the logarithm of alpha, not alpha itself. Estimated values typically range from +1 to -10. Super Slug accepts a maximum range of +3 to -15.

For some tests, it may be difficult to estimate alpha to within an order of magnitude because of the similarity of the curves. This will cause the resulting storativity to vary by as much as an order of magnitude.
