Eliminating Outliers

Use this dialog to exclude or include data measurements, or make adjustments to data. Data adjustments are made only to sample measurements the meet the specified criteria. The following adjustments are available:

  • Remove Data -- Data will be removed from the data set (equivalent to removing as outliers, or removing from the Add/Remove Samples dialog).
  • Restore Removed Data -- Date removed from the data set will be added back to the data set. This action restores removed outliers (that fit the criteria) to the data set and restores samples removed from the Add/Remove Samples dialog.
  • Multiply Concentrations -- Concentration values will be multiplied by a constant. Use with caution: this action should rarely be required. To replace non-detects with ½ of the detection limit, use the Transform Data Dialog instead.
  • Add to Concentrations -- A constant will be added to concentration values. Use with caution: this action should rarely be required.
  • Set as Non-Detect -- The sample will be flagged as non-detect.
  • Set as Detect -- The sample will be flagged as detected.

This functionality is particularly useful for limiting background data, but it can also be used to correct common problems with data that was not imported correctly. Use caution when changing data values or non-detect flags. Mistakes can be difficult to correct.

Parameters List -- This list displays all parameters in the data set. Adjustments will be applied only to checked parameters.

Well List -- This list displays all wells in the data set. Adjustments will be applied only to checked wells.

Action -- Select the type of adjustment to apply to the data.

Criteria

Adjustments will only be made to data that meet all of the criteria (for checked wells and parameters).

If Before Date -- Adjustment will be made only to samples collected before this date.

If After Date -- Adjustments will be made only to samples collected after this date.

If Greater Than -- If this box is checked, adjustments will be made only to samples with concentrations greater than the specified value. If the box is not checked, adjustments are not limited by this value.

If Less Than -- If this box is checked, adjustments will be made only to samples with concentrations less than the specified value. If the box is not checked, adjustments are not limited by this value.

If Equal To -- If this box is checked, adjustments will be made only to samples with concentrations equal to the specified value. If the box is not checked, adjustments are not limited by this value.

If Detected -- If this box is checked, adjustments will be made to samples flagged as detected.

If Non-Detect -- If this box is checked, adjustments will be made to samples flagged as non-detect.

Note: Since a sample must be either detect or non-detect, unchecking both of the above boxes will mean that no sample will meet the criteria.

Multiply By -- If the adjustment action is to multiply the concentration by a constant value, enter that value here.

Value to Add -- If the adjustment action is to add a constant value to a sample concentration, enter that value here.
