Introduction to Contouring

Use this dialog to specify options for creating the contour grids.

Gridding Method -- Choose the gridding method for the contours. Three methods are available.

  • Inverse Distance (fastest)
  • Triangulation
  • Kriging (slowest)

Grid Rows and Grid Columns -- Specify the number of grid rows and columns for the contours. Larger numbers of rows and columns produce more finely detailed contours, but require significantly more memory.

image\CHICLET.gif Remember that the number of nodes in the grid is the number of columns multiplied by the number of rows, so doubling the number of rows and columns will quadruple the number of nodes. A maximum of 50 rows and 50 columns is recommended, although higher values are supported.

Show Grid -- If this box is checked, the grid will be displayed in the color specified for Grid Color and with the line width specified for Grid Line Width.

Plot Proportional Points -- If this box is checked, circles will be plotted over each sampling location. The size of the circle will be proportional to the Z value plotted at that location. Points will be plotted in the color specified for Point Color.

Grid Values Increasing Left -- If this box is checked, grid values (easting) increases to the left. This only affects how points are plotted on the graph, but does not affect the vertical graph axis.

Grid Values Increasing Down -- If this box is checked, grid values (Northing) increase down. This only affects how points are plotted on the graph, but does not affect the vertical graph axis.

Background Color -- Select the background color for the plot area (area within the graph axes).
