Infinite Extent imports ASCII text files in a variety of formats.

To load a data logger file:

  1. Select Import from the File menu.

  1. From Data Logger Format, select the format of the data logger file, or the data logger manufacturer and model if listed. Single column files consist of a single column of alternating time and drawdown. Multiple column files consist of 2 or more columns, which may contain time and drawdown for multiple wells, as well as other information. Columns can be separated by spaces, tabs, or commas.

  1. Use the Browse Files button to select the file name.

  1. Select the time and drawdown units for the file.

  1. Indicate the total number of columns of data in the file.

  1. Under Column Assignments, specify which columns contain the time values and which columns contain the drawdown values for each well. It is important that these values are correct. To verify the file format, select View File to load and display the file into the selected text editor.

  1. Select Import to load the file.

  1. If necessary, use the View File button to view the file before loading. This will load the file into Windows Notepad or the text editor specified in Options | Customize. Use this option to ensure that the selected file and units are correct.

  1. In most cases, file headers do not need to be removed from the file. Infinite Extent will automatically begin reading time and drawdown in the correct location.
